Capabilities - Plastic Optics Molding
At matrix we've refined our polymer molding capabilities over the years... moving from integrated-lenses in the early 2000's to micro lens arrays, light pipes for military and medical applications and molded prisms for imaging and other applications.
We have delivered applications with resins such as Ultem (polyetherimide), Topas (cyclic olefin copolymer), Lexan (polycarbonate), Zeonor and Zeonex (polyolefins), Acrylite (acrylic - polymethyl methacrylate) and various other optical-grade materials are frequently used. Reflective and non-reflective coatings are also available through our certified sub-contractors.
Optical performance is verified using custom-designed test fixtures and through use of our laser interferometer, laser scanning and profilometry equipment. We typically tailor the inspection and handling of the molded optics to meet our customers' requirements. We have sound grounding in the use of ZEMAX-EE software which is helpful on the front end when evaluating best-fit for a particular design with regard to polymer and transmission properties.
